Start Right Chess uses chess to teach critical thinking, focus, self-efficacy, and other life competencies to children. We offer online, classroom, and afterschool instruction, as well as private lessons and a summer camp.

Credo: Reach each child, each time! In practice, this means that every child is positively acknowledged every class, and individual participation and learning goals are also in place for every child, every class. Equally important, Start Right Chess uses fun, innovative approaches to teaching chess - e.g., story-telling and a “chess rap” to make it effective and engaging.

The essential chess experience for kids 6-12 (total beginner to USCF-rated 1400) is now virtual! Available in a variety of levels and time slots, each afterschool session features:
